Abstract
Information on uncertainties in data and in the processing steps has the potential to support the analysis of geodata, but it must be communicated to the user in an appropriate way. For visual communication of uncertainties, there are a variety of methods. A rarely-used method is called Annotation Lines. In this methods lines form a regular grid and are distorted locally to represent areas of degrees of uncertainty. The following article describes how this method can be applied for the representation of thematic uncertainty in maps. An application example from KLIWAS, a project by the German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, is presented in this article. In addition, we describe the first steps taken to eveluate the method. Based on the findings, the potential of the method is estimated and aspects for further investigation are identified.
