Abstract
The Gauckler-Manning-Strickler formula is much used in connection with torrents, and can be safely used empirically provided its limits are realized. This article develops a new method following Strickler which uses synchronously, hydraulic characteristics and those specific to its bed. The water surface is measured by photogrammetry; the average gradient is measured by survey; and the flow and average speed of flow is measured by a dilution method. The hydraulic radius is measured by means of an ideal trapezium. Torrents were thus measured near Simplon village, and in comparison with the Schewior-Press tables better indices were obtained. -D.J.Davis
