Project swissphoto: digital orthophoto generation in an efficient production environment

Abstract

Digital orthophotos are an essential and up-to-date basis for various applications. They can fulfil the increasing need for up-to-date, accurate, fast acquired, reasonable and blanket coverage 3-D data and maps in various scales for environmental planning, monitoring and resource management. In 1995 the whole country of Switzerland was flown for the swissphoto project. After processing the acquired photos swissair Photo+Surveys Ltd. provided country-wide spatial data in the form of digital image data, digital terrain models and digital orthophotos covering the entire area of Switzerland (42 000 km2) as standard products for a various number of applications and for many users.
