Abstract
Natural ventilation of buildings has many obvious advantages. No energy-consuming fans are required and the user is independent from machines for artificial ventilation. The design of natural ventilation, however, is complex if optimal results with regard to energy efficiency and user comfort are to be achieved. The main design objectives are low shares of primary energy for heating or cooling the room air, as well as the limitation of CO2-concentration and noise immission. In order to achieve these objectives, the ventilation paths and discharge coefficients as well as the control of the ventilation openings and shading blinds must be coordinated.
