District heating and renewable energy: Ecoheat4cities: Get credit for efficient, renewable heat

Ingo Weidlich, Boris Lubinski

Abstract

District heating from renewable energy sources is one major solution to nowadays Europe's energy dilemmas. The need for changes in the heat supply is obvious, if the ambitious targets of a high renewable energy share and efficiency shall be reached. This article presents several results received from the Ecoheat4cities project, which aims at the reduction of non-technical barriers for efficient, renewable heat. The goals of the project shall be reached by introducing a label which displays the advantages of district heating. The main focus of the article lies on the work package 3 that was guided by The German Energy Efficiency Association (AGFW).
