Abstract
Fibre-reinforced polymer composites (FRP) have found a growing market in the construction sector. In special fields of application FRP offer high strength to weight ratio, excellent corrosion resistance, high thermal insulation and electrical isolation. With the BÜV-code ”polymers in load bearing structures” (2010-08) a guideline for structural analysis and design of FRP is presented. Special focus is laid on the ”duration of load”-effect and the necessary design checks compared with the codes for timber structures. The paper ends with a short worked example of the structural design of a FRP-beam used as load bearing structure in a roof.
