Abstract

Pipelines are important supply lines that transport energy sources over long distances and connect countries with each other. Regular monitoring and timely detection of minor damage prevent major accidents with serious consequences for people and the environment. To this end, AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) are now an e"cient extension in hydrography, as they can record economically efficient and highly precise acoustic, optical and electromagnetic sensor data from the immediate vicinity of the pipeline. In the CIAM research project funded by the BMWK, navigation, object detection and the level of autonomy are being further developed in a consortium of nine partners from science and industry.
