Abstract

For reinforced concrete the basis of a proper repair planning is the identification of the damage cause. If the damage deter-mined was caused by substances to which the structure was exposed, the penetration depth has to be known in order to enable the competent planner to determine the scope of repair. The samples taken from the structure are usually analyzed wet-chemically and the results are presented as profile pictures over the depth, whereby the resolution depends strongly on the analysis effort and thus on the analysis costs. By the so-called LIBS procedure, it is possible to gain comparatively fast a high additional information content from the samples and to represent this descriptively. The high-resolution images help to recognize complicated facts and to make problems easier to understand even for external participants due to the excellent visualization. The combination of a high information density in connection with a fast measuring method is also helpful in the context of research in order to be able to map the heterogeneous building material concrete and the ion transport within the cement paste.
