Abstract
In contrast to outdoor navigation, indoor navigation in GNSS shaded areas is still a challenge. The 5G Network can be used as a position source alternative in indoor environments. Moreover, a platform to answer the indoor navigation requirement is discussed. In this paper, we have presented a novel 5G simulator based on the 5G configuration as a dense cellular network. Moreover, we present the research project Level 5 Indoor Navigation (L5IN) at the HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) as the prototype. It aims to develop an approach for indoor navigation based on sensors of mobile devices supported by absolute positioning methods in a 5G Campus Network. The concept for the implementation of the project’s approach for a 5G-supported indoor navigation is presented. This includes the project design and the conception of a planned application for indoor navigation. The conclusion shows a promising future to overcome with the existing challenges in indoor navigation.
