BG (Civil Engineering - Geodesy and Geoinformatics)

Organisation profile

About the department

The BG department combines civil engineering, geodesy, and geoinformatics into a unified scientific approach to the planning, design, implementation, and analysis of the built and natural environments. It addresses key future challenges such as climate change, digitalisation, resource-efficient construction, infrastructure maintenance, urban mobility, and the sustainable management of space and the environment, based on precise measurement, data-driven modeling, and engineering design expertise.

In research and teaching, theoretical foundations are combined with application-oriented methods, for example in the areas of construction, infrastructure, monitoring, digital twins, Building Information Modeling (BIM), geodata analysis, sensor technology, and visualisation. A defining feature is the use of modern technologies such as satellite- and sensor-based measurement methods, computer vision, AI-supported data analysis, and computer-aided planning and simulation methods.
