A Pattern Logic for a Citizen-Generated Subjective Quality of Life Index in Neighborhoods

Abstract

This paper puts forward a procedure for measuring and analysing the subjectively felt quality of life of citizens in a certain location. Referring to ongoing debates about quality of life in cities, it introduces a systematic approach for performance evaluations of neighborhoods. The presented method suggests tools for constant information collection by way of qualitative surveys regarding georeferenced (local) subjective themes of citizens. Supported by a novel pattern logic, these tools can be flexibly adjusted through iterative steps. Adding to discourses on sentiment analysis, the paper also introduces a semi-automated method for the linguistic clustering of citizen statements.
